Stellaris Bunker Bot: What Should You Do with them? (Risk/Reward) (2024)

As your Empire grows in Stellaris and you send your science ships out to the outer reaches of the Galaxy you’ll start to discover more and more anomalies.

These anomalies can range from the exciting to the rather mundane. The Stellaris Bunker Bot anomaly is one of the more interesting anomalies out there.

You’ll be given several choices with varying rewards. If you’re not a gambler and want to know which choices give what rewards then read on.

Everything You Need to Know about the Stellaris Bunker Bot

What is the Stellaris Bunker Bot?

Stellaris Bunker Bot: What Should You Do with them? (Risk/Reward) (1)

The Stellaris Bunker Bot is an enormous supercomputer the size of a Battleship hidden underground.

In Stellaris, subterranean finds are rare, so it’s pretty exciting. It’s thought that the computer has been hidden away for perhaps thousands of years working on one solitary problem.

After your crew discovers the computer, it broadcasts a message, but no one knows who to.

This all sounds a little suspicious. Science fiction has taught us not to trust mysterious supercomputers, we’ve all seen the Terminator and the Matrix.

Thankfully, of the decisions you can make, none of them have particularly far-reaching rewards.

Don’t worry, you’re not going to get our Empire taken over by a nefarious AI if you let the computer keep doing its thing.

Stellaris Bunker Bot Choices

So what are your choices and what are the ramifications?

  • Destroy the computer and tear it down for parts
  • Utilize it and boost your Empire’s research
  • Let it do its thing, who’s it hurting?

Destroy- A computer that has failed to solve a single problem in a thousand years will serve” us better as a new ship hull…”

Option number one is to simply blow the thing up and scrap it for parts. The computer is full of precious materials and you’ll get:

  • 100 alloys
  • 50 rare crystals
  • 50 minerals

Not anything to write home about but better than a kick in the teeth from your new AI overlord right?

Use it for your own ends- “This requires that we keep the AI maintaining the facility offline and will cause the computer to break down within the foreseeable future.

You found an awesome supercomputer, you might as well use it for a while right? This gets you:

  • The Bunker-Bot modifier. This is a 10% bonus to monthly engineering. It lasts for ten years.

A nice little reward with definite long-term value.

Let it do its thing- “We had better not disturb it. Whatever problem the computer is trying to solve, it seems important…”

This is the option that feels the most like a gamble. You can let it keep calculating away in the hope that the calculations eventually lead to something useful.

Do they? Well right off the bat you’ll get:

  • 200 influence

Which is nothing to sneeze at.

However, the real value of this event only reveals itself if you have the Distant Stars DLC installed.

If you do then the results of this choice play straight into the L-Cluster and L-Gate event.

What is the L-Gate?

The L gate is a lone gate that only connects to one small cluster of schools. It’s disconnected from the other gates.

The L gate is the only way to reach these stars. What happens here is pretty cool but we won’t spoil it here.

What you do need to know however is that activating the L gate is no easy task. You’ll need to complete a special project. And this project needs L-Gate insights to be completed.

Stellaris Bunker Bot: What Should You Do with them? (Risk/Reward) (4)

So where does our friend the Stellaris Bunker Bot come into play? Well, the special project needs 7 L-Gate insights, which you can get from the Bunker Bot.

Let the Stellaris Bunker Bot do its own thing and at some point, soon after starting the special L-Gate project Bunker, Bot will reward you with 1 L-Gate insight.

Which Stellaris Bunker Bot to choose?

Stellaris Bunker Bot: What Should You Do with them? (Risk/Reward) (5)

Which decision you make depends on what stage of the game you’re in and if you have the Distant Stars DLC.

Option 1 kinda sucks. The crystals are nice but the alloys and minerals are nothing special. It’s also the least interesting option.

Write this one-off.

Option 2 is where it starts to get interesting. A 10% boost to research is a nice little boon. If you’re trying to get a tech advantage and speed through certain tech trees then give this option some definite consideration.

Option 3 gives you a ton of influence. If you’re focusing on expansion and keep running low on influence then this is probably the option for you.

On top of all this, we have the L-gate. If you don’t have the DLC or are in the early game and have discovered an L-Gate yet, then this shouldn’t be a concern.

It could be ages until you find an L-Gate and get the Bunker Bot insight. The required insight can be found in lots of ways.

Choose to focus on the material rewards and forget about the L-Gate, it could be a long way off.

However! If you are close to completing the special project then the third option becomes infinitely more appealing.

We don’t want to spoil the Stellaris L-gate outcomes but there are some great rewards to be had. If you’re close to finishing the project it’s definitely worth speeding towards.

At the end of the day what to do with the Stellaris bunker bot isn’t a huge deal.

With more recent updates Stellaris Bunker Bot 2.2 is bug-free so just pick the choice that provides the reward you need at that time.

There is no “wrong decision” and you won’t wreck your campaign whichever choice you make.
